The National African Energy Wholesalers Association of South Africa (NAEWASA) is a Registered Energy Sector Association.

May 2017

Founded

NAEWASA was initially a New Entrants Commission (the Commission) established by the Department of Energy (DoE) on Thursday, 4 May 2017 at a National Transformation Workshop themed HDSA WHOLESALER WORKSHOP held at Saint George Hotel in Centurion, Pretoria, South Africa. The Commission Petroleum Industry New Entrants and Business Owners Members nominated Representatives to serve at the DoE. The DoE required the Commission to participate as one of the Stakeholders at the then Petroleum and Liquid Fuels Sector Interim Steering Committee (ISC) to align the Petroleum Liquid Fuels Charter to the Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment Codes of Practice.

May 2017

Participation

The New Entrants Commission started its participation on Monday, 8 May 2017 representing New Entrants in the Sector. After careful consideration and deliberation based on the presentation made on 8 May 2017, the Commission Members decided to convene a Members Meeting on Friday, 2 June 2017 and the DoE facilitated logistics for the Commission at the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) Auditorium Headquarters in Pretoria. NERSA assisted the Commission Members and provided recording of the Meeting. The Commission Members RESOLVED to establish an Industry Association and an implementation strategy was ADOPTED.

June 2017

Registration

NAEWASA was registered with Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) on Friday, 23 June 2017. Priscilla Selele served as Director and Secretary General since NAEWASA’s establishment and presented NAEWASA’s strategy to the ISC Stakeholders Workshop Held at Ditsong Conference Hall, Pretoria on Friday, 23 June 2017.

June 2019

Confirmation

Following due processes by the DoE and the ISC Stakeholders, presentations were made to the Ministry of Energy in the Republic of South Africa after Four (4) Ministers were reshuffled since 2017, ultimately, Minister Gwede Mantashe confirmed the ISC Stakeholders as the Petroleum Liquid Fuels Sector Charter Council (PLFSCC) in 2019. NAEWASA CIPC Registration Number is 2017/276275/08 and DSD Registration Number is 257-878 NPO.

Student

Working environment where New Entrants build credible businesses that create sustainable value-added mega projects, jobs and contribute in eradicating social ills leading to high rates of unemployment, inequalities, poverty.
